Self-Care

Guest Post

Hi my names Olivia from olivialucieblake.com. I am a lifestyle blogger that talks about self-confidence, mental health, well-being and so much more. I’m so happy to be doing this collaboration with Chaitrali on such an important topic. Self-care is so important, especially because of the trials and tribulations of 2020 so far. Today I’ll be sharing my 5 self-care tips. Once you have read mine, please head over to my blog where Chaitrali will be sharing hers! So enough about me, let’s get into the post!

What is Self-Care?

‘The practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.’

– Wikipedia

Take time away from your Phone

Simple yet effective. Our phones carry a lot of negativity within them, especially if you’re active on social media. It can be filled with bad new stories, mean comments.. I could go on. Turn your phone off for a day and see how much happier you feel. Distract yourself and do something you wouldn’t usually. Read a book, go for a walk, do the things you enjoy the most.

It doesn’t even need to a full day, maybe a couple hours or half a day or longer! You Choose! I think actively doing something about your phone addiction (if you have one) is a great form of self-care. We all need to get off of our phones a-bit more often!

Organise a Spa Day

I personally really enjoy doing a pamper evening for myself. I know many spas still might not be open but grab yourself a face mask, run yourself a bath and it’s just as good as a spa! Taking intentional time out can be so beneficial to your mental well-being. We all forget to stop and relax because we live in such a 24-hour society. We are expected to keep going without a break, but know that you do need to take some time out. It will help in so many different aspects of your life.

Get Outside

If the weather permits then get go outside, embrace nature, run in a field haha. Do whatever it is you enjoy. Fresh air is so good for you and not to mention the exercise too. Remember self-care is the act of protecting your own wellbeing and happiness, especially through stressful times. I find going on a walk when I feel anxious or stressed really helps put things into perspective for me. I hope it can do the same for you too.

Order in Dinner

Maybe it’s a Friday night or maybe you just don’t want to cook. Order in dinner and give yourself a night off. It’s okay to order take out, remember everything in moderation. Society makes it seem like ordering take out is the worst thing ever and only for lazy people, well I’m here to tell you that’s a lie. Ordering in dinner is such a great act of self-care, it allows you to rest and relax instead of stressing over what you are going to cook that night. Give yourself some time off.

Say No

I am such an advocate for saying no when you don’t want to do something. I recently wrote a blog post talking about this topic, and discussed tips on how to stop saying yes when you want to say no. It’s so important to keep in mind your own thoughts and feelings when making decisions. If you don’t want to do something then don’t do it, you have that choice. Doing things that only please others is not good for your mental health. I learnt this when I found myself agreeing to things I felt I couldn’t say no to. Find that courage and watch how your life will change. You will become so much happier.

Thanks so much for reading my 5 self-care tips – make sure to head on over to my blog to read Chaitrali’s 5 self-care tips too! See you over there and thanks for reading!
